As part of the "STECCI - Stone Monument Ensembles and the Climate Change Impact" project, a workshop was held on June 7, 2024, at the Gorske Oči Hotel in Žabljak, under the work package WP5, Task 5.2. This workshop brought together numerous stakeholders from various sectors, including government institutions, non-governmental organizations, universities, and local community representatives, aiming to discuss stećci, their protection, and valorization.

The workshop was conducted in accordance with the quadruple helix principle, which involves the inclusion of academic institutions, government institutions, businesses, the public sector, and citizens. In this way, the project facilitates active citizen participation through citizen science initiatives, contributing to the development of social labs that are crucial for researching and protecting cultural heritage in the context of climate change.

During the workshop, it was emphasized that stećci must first be protected to implement valorization measures. Various measures that need to be taken were discussed, and it was concluded that stakeholders are willing to continue discussions on this very important issue in the future.

This event represents a significant step towards the preservation and promotion of the cultural heritage of stećci, while simultaneously encouraging collaboration between different sectors and the inclusion of the broader public in decision-making processes and research implementation. The STECCI project, funded through the European Union's Horizon 2020 program, aims to enhance understanding and protection of stećci as an important part of the region's cultural heritage.
